Something you need to know about deploying the 8.0.1 Standard client

When I worked it out, this made me smile - alot - last week. If you haven't yet upgraded to 8.0.1, you might want to know this too.
Here's the scenario - the customer is deploying the 8.0.1 client through group policy. An upgrade from 6.5.4 and we're deploying the integrated Standard client to all the UK users too. I've customised the package for them a little - custom templates, scripted config, etc, and we're using a policy to set the remainder of the desktop settings. BUT - here's the rub. Now that the Standard Notes client runs in Eclipse, certain parts of the client are provided as Eclipse features - Sametime for one, and the Notes browser. So - the Notes policy settings don't take effect in the Standard client*. You can try setting the users' home Sametime server but it won't take effect. Neither will a policy to set their default browser.
So, how do we configure our client package to set these options for all our users? Talking them through it is not an option. It turns out I had to scour through an installed client and find out where all this information is actually stored on disk. Then we worked out a way to change it as a seamless part of the install. Looks like it's set via a policy, but isn't.
How did I do that? Well, it's all in my ILUG presentation, so if you want to know - you'll have to come and find out!**
*Yes, I agree - they ought to, but at the moment they don't. As I found out...
**Sorry, it's a tease. But it is very useful, and I need to give attendees some reason to come to my session rather than Robs' 'Free Beer' session which is on at the same time!
