Looking at Traveler

I've been taking a look at Lotus Traveler this morning. So far, so good....
The install is certainly pretty easy - run install, click buttons, off you go. One thing I did find out though - RTFM! When asked 'do you want to configure HTTP', this doesn't mean it will ride rough-shot over your config, but it will setup the Domino servlet manager (yep, it's a Domino servlet) and all the other bits and bobs. This is all documented in the infocenter, but as I found out, it's easier to let the installer do it!
The bootstrap process is a nice idea. Basically, it lets your users download a config file that sets up servernames etc etc. A good idea, but at the moment you need to download it as a separate file before you run the installer. From my experience, I can't really see any users doing that successfully - it really ought to be integrated into the cab file.
So, once it's installed the client config is pretty easy, then the PDA will go off and start a full sync, which takes A WHILE! If you think it's crashed, go make coffee. OK, I have alot of data, but it's upto about 10 minutes so far over a wifi connection...
So, if you're looking for basic email/calendar/contacts/journal data - it's not a bad solution. The Server UI is so simple it's non-existant (seriously - no options bar the addin task configuration), it pretty much does what it says on the tin. Of course, for an enterprise there are a bunch of things that aren't there - device kill, any per-user settings (if it's on, it's on for EVERY user), device management, tracking, other application support. But, compared to what we had previously - it's a big, big improvement!
