One of the reasons I like the train so much

If you're travelling from London to Edinburgh, I really can't recommend the train enough. There are a bunch of reasons, but while sitting here travelling at 100mph with free power&wifi, a beer in my hand and a comfy seat, the following things came to mind...
No messing. Get to station, get on train. Go home. No silly check-in/security rubbish.
Lots of trains. Every 30mins in fact
Ability to get that last bit of work done before you get home so it doesn't have to be done at the weekend.
No luggage limits (or charges for having a bag...)
But the nicest thing about a train journey is the occasional people you meet. For some reason I didn't get a seat reservation this time, but not a real problem - someone else who did have an Edinburgh->London reservation did. So, I waited at that aisle seat until a few minutes after we'd departed, and when they were a definate no-show, settled in. Now, that's not very exciting, but I explained my position to the lady in the window seat next to me. She thought it a very good tactic, and in fact we started chatting. Nothing earth shattering, no strange revelations - just a nice pleasant person who was happy to chat to a stranger for an hour or so.
It's things like that which make train travel worthwhile to me. It's simple and relaxed and on the whole, friendly. Of course, during the daytime the scenery is also pretty fantastic - but that doesn't count at 21:15
. So, to whoever you were (and you're almost
certainly not reading this anyway!), thanks. Good wishes, I hope things
work out OK, and thanks for the chat. It's the little things in life, sometimes.
