Well, the 'sphere is over. We're not yet on the way home though, as we're off to Houston to go see Libby for a few days
Wow, what a week. Lotusphere 2007 has been the most hectic, energetic and exciting Lotusphere I've been to out of the past 5 years. Why? Well, lots and lots of things, but a few stand out:
Seeing the progress being made in Notes 8. This, and the great news that much of the new and added functionality is pure NSF. Such as the ability to push out your eclipse plugins. No websphere, no portal, just Domino. There were so many Notes 8 sessions that I just didn't get the time to go and see, so I'll be getting onto Lotusphere online to start downloading the slides as soon as I can.
Quickr. In case you hadn't guessed, Quickr is Quickplace 8, or Quickplace on steroids. Or Quickplace integrated into everything else you can find. It's NSF based, with optional DB2 Content Management, or Domino Document Mangaer or Filenet. It's a Quickplace you can browse as a file system. It has the functionality for "Workplace Solution for XYZ" out of the box (guess where those products are going!) It's a file system that extends your mail so that it uploads attachments to the file store - then emails a link. It's software that is FREE. It's being run by a team that understand cool, sexy software sells itsefl to end users. Then those end uers pay us IT bods to deliver it. It's coooool.
Lotus Connections. Obviously a huge announcement, but although I remain to be convinced on the whole product, the templated activities portion has obvious advantages for any reseach organisation - or organisations reusing any processes. I'm still doubtfull just how much of this will take off in the UK, but it will certainly be interesting to see.
It's important to emphasise JUST how much innovation is coming out of IBM at the moment. I remember the group of bloggers being asked how Quickr did this, that and the other during the week. We don't know! It was only launched on Sunday, and came straight out of the blue (as did Connections). BUT, it will be out, on your desk in under 6 months! This year is going to be a busy one for learning, that's for sure.
Soo many meetings. ISV's with more leads than they can shake a stick at, Partners wanting to expand, Organisations talking to us. In one week, we've not only moved forward 3 user groups in two countires, but arranged conferences and made plans (I hope) for more international travel in the year.
Speedgeeking. This was just soooooooo cool. I ran out of flyers about half way through there were so many people around. So, if you couldn't understand the rate at which I was talking (30 days of research and 60 days of deployment covered in under 5 minutes), or need more info - please let me know. Just give me time to write it all up!!!
Community. I still find it amazing how each year, 30+ people get together. Most of us havn't seen each other in a year, and have just emailed or talked on Skype. Yet, within a few hours, we're all back to being best friends. Talking, joking, relaxing, partying and swapping ideas. Sometimes this past week I've fuond myself sitting in a room (or a bar) with just so much talent - it's almost scary. I wonder sometimes what the group assembled would be capable of producing if we all worked on the same project. Now, that would be intense!!
Then of course, there was the boat race, the dinners, the photo opportunities, the generosity of people, the atmosphere. I have many more photos to post, check back for those soon. Lotusphere was all over the IT press, national press, youtube, the blogosphere, flickr. Just fantastic. Notes is not dead, Notes is transcending to a higher plane of existence - and we're all going with it. Roll on 2008.

Huge thanks for the efforts you put into the boat race and the SpeedGeeking - both are now firm favourites in terms of the 'Sphere experience.
